Question by tiny_lil_hottie: can anyone suggest how to get my doctor to stop screwing around with guesses?
i’ve had chronic neck pain for YEARS, made worse by cold. in fact cold makes my skin feel like its burning regardless of how much or what type of lotion i use (even prescriptions); have had 3 severe earaches in the last 2 months to the point my middle ear swelled so much the instrument to look in my ear wouldn’t fit and the one for infants was tight. Now leg pain on the back of my calf and front of my thigh on just my right side along with very sore breast and acne. i didn’t have acne as a teen and now i have acne worse than my teenage son! i notice my muscle cramps and leg pains get worse right before i pass kidney stones.
my doctor says stress, took 6 months to get mri and cat scan to confirm something ( an unknown benign growth on my t1 and t2 vertebra) was in my neck but despite my assumption that it somehow has something to due with the pain the neurologist insist that it is harmless and couldn’t possibly be causing my neck pain. that my neck pain is all in my head, that my kidney stones cause my leg pain and my low blood sugar causes my kidney stones for me to just drink more water and it should all go away. i have dealt with this daily for 4 years and sadly he is the only board certified neurologist in western ky.
so what other types of doctors would be better to see? pain management doctors wont see new patients without referral from neurologist so that wont be an option for me. And how can i get a potential new doctor to actually look or test for a cause and hopefully cure to this instead of just reading the neurologist report and agreeing with him without asking any further questions as 2 other prime care doctors have done?
i don’t want pitty or drugs, i want the pain to stop, to go away and stay away.

Try consulting a doctor who specializes in physical rehabilitation medicine for your neck pain, and a nephrologist for your renal stones. Although I must say that the benign lesion in your T1 -T2 vertebra is not something to be ignored easily. A thorough physical exam and history taking should be properly done to assess your neck pain especially in determining whether it is psychogenic or secondary to something else.
